It doesn’t matter who you are or who you know, when you hear the word geek you get some sort of mental picture of what it is that a geek looks like to you. Some people might see glasses and pocket protectors when they think about geeks. Some people might think of comic book carrying guys who are a little on the thin side. If you are like me, then you picture those people who are absolutely obsessed with all things Apple-not that there’s a problem with it, but it is pretty geeky. We all have our own opinions of what makes a geek a geek, but geeks have actually come a long way.

Did you know that the word “geek” can actually be traced back to the 1500s. Then it was a word that described someone as a fool. It might have even come from the 18th century Austrian word “gecken,” which was used to describe circus performers. Now geeks can range from foodies to techies, and everywhere in between. They are even play lovable characters on our favorite television shows. There is even geek fashion, dubbed “geek chic.” So put away your old images of geeks and embrace the fact that you too, are probably in some way a geek.
